Estee Lauder Double Wear

Saturday, 28 July 2018

My foundation was discontinued. Gutted.

I've spent years trying to find the perfect foundation, and two years ago, on a whim, I found it. The Body Shop moisture renew, I can't even remember how many times I've re-purchased, but it was just, the best foundation ever. It worked so well with my skin, so I was really disheartened that I had to go through the trials and retributions to find a half decent new one, when it was no longer stocked anywhere.

I have really dry skin so finding a foundation which doesn't making me look greasy is hard! My friend Amy always has beautiful skin, even though she struggles with breakouts, she always looks glowing. I umm'd and aah'd about trying out the one she used, but she had oily / normal skin so I just kind of wrote it off. I decided to give Revlon Colourstay a chance, I have nothing to say for that product, but there's a reason my skin looked shit at school.

I stopped wearing make-up for about a week, more out of protest that I didn't want to find a new foundation.

I did some research about the foundation Amy used, and a lot of girls with dry skin raved about it, as it was a high-end product I popped in store and got a tester. That's when I decided to purchase Estee Lauder Double Wear.

The cost?

£33.50 for this foundation is a lot more than my old one. It was always 2 for £10 in the outlet near me so it's a hike in price. I've searched for cheaper options, Amy gets hers in the outlet for £24 but sadly, they don't do my shade. They don't even sell my shade on the Boots website? A trip in to store does mean the temptation of shopping.

After using it for a couple of weeks, I do think it's worth the price, but it's one of those things I'll need to make sure I put money a side for.

That packaging

The bottle is beautiful, it's got a matt finish and overall the bottle just looks expensive. (Which obvs it is)  The whole no pump situation - people seems to hate this, but I like it. I always use too much when I have a product with a pump, but when your pour it out you can get exactly how much you need. You do need to be awake to pour this on the back of your hand, just an FYI.

The first application

When I first tried this out I hadn't done my whole skincare routine, just moisturiser, and it looked 'Okay', I wasn't blown away. The next day I used my eye cream, my lip balm, my face oil and my moisturiser, and I fell in love. My skin looked flawless!

I did learn on my first application that this coats your face, which is good but not for my under eyes. I've always had under eye wrinkles, they're even in my baby photos, and this looks horrendous in them, so I just apply my concealer under my eyes, and it works really well.

What's the finish like?

I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to the finish of the foundation, as Amy's skin was always glowing, but we have different skin types. This gives me a matt finish and there's no need for powder. You can feel this is on your face, it kind of feels like a mask? You cannot forget you have it on, but the finish is beautiful. I am just so happy I gave it a chance.

I use a powder blush, I wait a few minuets before applying to let my foundation dry and it blends perfectly. I don't use powder a long side, but if you have oily skin you may need to around your oily spots.

Coverage

I would say this is a medium, to full coverage foundation. It's definitely buildable and perfect for any photos, or night out. I'm using to light coverage, so it's a change for me, but I really like! I find eye make-up looks so much better with this on.

How do I apply?

Lastly, the application. I started off using just a beauty blender, which was okay but a stippling / buffing brush was a much better option, I blend it all over with this, I use the Real Techniques brush, and then just pat it over with my beauty blender to just matt down my pores, and it just gives you a really flawless finish.

I would highly recommend this foundation, it's one of those all time favourites which has been around for years, I just can't believed I've only just tried it!

Thanks for reading!
